Welcome to the Office of Postdoctoral Scholars at The University of Iowa!
The Office of Postdoctoral Scholars (OPDS) serves as the administrative home for UI postdoctoral scholars and fellows. We are committed to building a vibrant postdoctoral community and to providing a professional environment that will enrich your postdoctoral experiences at Iowa. We host approximately 300 postdoctoral trainees on campus annually, and the office will serve as a resource for postdocs, faculty mentors, departments, and colleges employing our postdoctoral network.
The OPDS opens its doors as a collaborative effort between the Graduate College and the Office of the Vice President for Research. The goals and activities of this office reflect a vision proposed in a report by an intercollegiate Postdoctoral Scholars Advisory Committee. The establishment of this office now provides a defined central office and a staff person dedicated to assisting our postdoctoral scholars and fellows. Please contact us or visit us in Gilmore Hall (Room 205).
Our goals are twofold. First, we will work to foster a more interactive postdoctoral community. Second, we will build resources and partnerships across campus to enhance the professional development of our postdoctoral scholars. We want to ensure that our postdocs excel professionally and compete successfully for their desired positions in academia, industry, government, or business.
Please explore this web site over the coming weeks and months as we build and expand our offerings. We will provide information on getting started in your postdoctoral position, your policies & benefits, and various career resources. We will also offer resources for faculty and administrators to assist them in advising their postdocs.
Again, please feel free to contact our office or stop in if you have any questions.
